Participants interested in performance (theater, music, or otherwise) will learn key elements of improvisation and composition using only paper as an instrument, and techniques developed by the Paper Ensemble.
The participants will be guided through various exercises and gradually work towards a collaborative composition. On the last day, the participants will perform their compositions. This performance will be open to the public.
Since 2007 The Paper Ensemble has performed and exhibited extensively abroad.
Jochem van Tol is a composer, musician and visual artist. The starting point of his work is sound in the broadest sense: from the raw frayed edges of pop music to minimal ‘forgotten’ sounds. As a composer and musician he collaborated in successful theatre productions with Schweigman& and De Veenfabriek. He is an active member of diverse experimental, highly visual music groups like The Job, Obol Le and o k a p i. As a sound artist Jochem has researched the sounds of paper for the past 10 years in a number of remarkable performances. He shows how much there is to discover in the most simple material and how to choose radical consequences from his discoveries.
