As the first result of a new strand of performance research, Jonathan Reus will premiere Autonomic Resonance at Ogen/Blik on March 29th. Made in collaboration with Japanese pianist and composer Momoko Noguchi, Autonomic Resonance explores the non-conscious dynamics between individuals in the shared moment of performance. Custom sensors measuring the activity of the involuntary nervous system are used to translate these dynamics into a “third musician”. Meanwhile the performers are turned inside-out as they attempt to harmonize conscious playing with each others’ (and their own) autonomously sensing bodies.
