Darina Žurková is a composer, performer and interdisciplinary artist born in Czechoslovakia, based in The Hague. Her artistic research is focused on exploring imaginary ecosystems, re/defining contexts and behavioral patterns between individual components or organisms embodied in these ecosystems and investigating certain inner fragilities. Those ideas are bound to the concept of ‘de/re(con)structure’ within her work in sound art, experimental music, happenings and interdisciplinary projects. In her solo projects the elements of live electronics, installations, sculptural objects and eco-activism intertwine with performance art.

Mihalis Shammas Square

Mihalis Shammas is a Cypriot (b.1988) musician and kinetic artist. His work is driven by an urge to create meaningful objects and tools for expression, exploring the space between machine and narrative. Amidst mechanical precision and poetic error, his artifacts carry about the imaginary dimension of the “useless machine”, their technological nature muddled by their narrative capacities.

Dmitry_portrait

Dmitry Gelfand (b. 1974, St. Petersburg, Russia) creates multi-sensory installations and performances prodding the slippery origins of the physical world. Working in tandem with Evelina Domnitch since 1998, Gelfand abandoned the use of solid, fixative and recording media – in favour of liquids, gases, and plasmas permeated by acoustic vibrations and light emissions. The duo’s artworks have emerged through unorthodox collaborations with pioneering research groups, including LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory), RySQ (Rydberg Atom Quantum Simulator), and Aerospace Engineering, TU Delft.

Farah Rahman is a mixed media artist working with archives, found footage and objects. Farah’s tendency to collect and document artistically is similar to the work of an ethnographer who analyzes peoples and cultures through field research. She strives to use remixing media techniques as a research tool. Her starting point is the de-construction of found (archive) materials, fragments from the mainstream media landscape, popular culture and personal archives.

Rahman studied audiovisual design at The Willem The Kooning Art Academy and is currently a member of the Film Werkplaats in WORM Rotterdam.

Sound Art at Kruithuis November music 2016, den Bosch, the Netherlands

Gabey Tjon a Tham transforms spaces into sensory and immersive environments through kinetic machines, light, and sound. She observes behaviours and patterns in nature from where she extracts and assembles fundamentals. Tjon a Tham considers technology as a natural occurrence. In her works the technology has a logic on its own, it conflicts and harmonizes. The artist develops techniques and invents mechanical sculptures that embed different materials and perform at different poetic levels. Hereby natural-mechanical choreographies arise. The works invite us to wonder at, contemplate, and investigate.
